We all have that room. The room we try not to look at as we walk by. The one we to which keep the door partially closed – open only enough to let light out. That is, if any light can get out.
Yes, it’s the ‘junk room.’ Some people have a junk drawer, but let’s be honest, most of us have an entire room dedicated to just stuff. When you know someone is coming over and you want the house to look good…you gather up everything in your arms that you can, toss it in the junk room, and shut the door before it can follow you out. Yep…you know what I’m talking about.
It’s that room each of us dread packing up to move, or finally reaching for spring cleaning, or simply deciding to reclaim. So, how do you do it without getting lost? With help – and not just any help. You want to call in a professional.
Professional organizers, if you’ve never heard of them, are skilled in the art of taking action and decision making. In addition, as a general rule, they are compassionate and empathetic. Each has her own system to walk you through your desired work area (junk room, office, garage, entire house! Etc.) and help you discover what truly has meaning and value, and what is simply taking up space.
It’s a powerful and liberating experience. I won’t say it’s easy, but it certainly is freeing. Some professional organizers take the things you’ve decided to get rid of with them at the end of the session so you don’t have the inner battle of looking at them. Some don’t. If you and your organizer decide you want assistance with this part of the journey, the Curb-It app (iPhone, Android) is an easy to use, fast tool to utilize and won’t detract from your hard work.
Don’t forget to reward yourself at the end of a hard day’s work with your professional organizer. You’ll deserve it!
